Workshop “Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy in Polymer Science”
News from Physics Department - 2013-10-23
The workshop “Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy in Polymer Science” was held at the Physics Department October 10-11, 2013. The workshop was organized by Dr. Dominik Wöll, University of Konstanz, and Prof. Christine M. Papadakis, Physics Department.
Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) is a well-established technique with its beginning in the early 1970ies. The enormous potential of FCS has so far mainly been exploited in the field of life sciences, in particular biology and medicine. Even though also polymer science has benefitted from this technique, FCS studies in this field are still quite limited and the number of publications relatively low.
The idea of the workshop was to bring together scientists working in this field and discuss current topics. The workshop attracted 30 participants, mainly from Germany and the Czech Republic, and especially many young scientists. Invited presentations, oral contributions and a poster session resulted in lively discussions about achievements and new developments. These were continued during the Bavarian evening. Prizes for the best talk given by a young scientist as well as a poster prize were awarded. It was decided to organize another meeting in two years from now.
